What is Memory Foam Visco Elastic?
Memory foam visco elastic is a new technology that is changing the way we sleep. The visco elastic material moulds your body helping to relieve excess pressure and improving blood circulation, meaning less tossing and turning, ultimately resulting in less interruption to your normal sleep pattern. Memory foam mattresses are ideal for people with broken sleep patterns, painful joints, back and spine problems, diabetics and those who simply want a comfortable nights sleep.

The visco elastic material was originally developed in the 1970s at NASA Ames Research Center in order to improve the seating comfort and absorb G-forces in space crafts. Visco elastic memory foam is now increasingly being used in mattress construction. The premium quality, high density foam has magnificent capabilities of absorbing energy and is extremely temperature sensitive. These two features combined create excellent pressure relieving features. The material forms itself to the shape of any object/pressure applied, returning to its original shape when the object/pressure is removed.

As an added benefit the structure of the visco elastic memory foam makes it impossible for dust mites to penetrate the mattress. This creates a cleaner and healthier environment ultimately providing the setting for a truly comfortable, therapeutic sleep. It is also ideal for those who suffer from airborne allergies and hay fever as dust mites are one of the most common causes of allergies within the house. Top

What should you look for with a Visco Elastic mattress?
The primary consideration when looking for a memory foam visco elastic mattress is the depth of the visco elastic inside. You can buy a mattress of 24 cm in depth but it may only have 4 cm of visco elastic. Ensure that your mattress has between 7-10 cm of visco elastic particularly if the depth of your mattress is over 20 cm in overall depth.

Visco elastic comes in different densities, soft, medium and firm. Generally most manufacturers use medium density visco elastic. You should also make sure that when you buy a mattress that it comes up to the British standard fire regulations, particularly if they are being used in a commercial environment or in a rented property. What is Reflex Foam?
Reflex foam is a standard foam that is used in virtually all mattresses, in varying depths. The foam is resistant to dust mites and is, therefore, ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers, as long as it is in a full block form and not in an open coil spring mattress. Although still comfortable they do not have the temperature sensitive benefits of the memory foam visco elastic mattresses. Top

What are the Orthopedic benefits?
If you suffer from any form of back, shoulder, neck or hip pain then you will know what a challenge it can be to get a good night’s sleep. Back pain alone is so prolific that 40% of UK adults have suffered from back pain lasting more than a day, and shockingly, 15% of those are in permanent pain.

Foam mattresses and in particular memory foam visco elastic are naturally orthopedic creating pressure reducing properties. These provide a natural contour to your body with the ultimate aim of keeping your spine as straight as possible. This pressure relief helps to relieve the symptoms of back ache, allowing you to get a restful and comfortable nights sleep. The ultimate orthopedic mattress experience can be found with visco elastic mattresses using technology pioneered and developed by NASA in the 1970’s to reduce the effects of G-force on astronauts at take off.

A visco-elastic and foam mattress is not just the preserve of orthopedic users as the additional comfort over conventional mattresses can reduce tossing and turning by up to 80%. This lays the foundations for a restful, relaxed and more productive sleep. Top

What are the Allergy free benefits?
All foam mattresses benefit from being allergy free, often referred to as “Hypoallergenic”, the technical term for discouraging household dust and mites. Dust mites are one of the most common causes of allergies within the house.

The average conventional mattress can be home to millions of microscopic dust mites. They thrive in a warm environment and generally live deep within the mattress, meaning no amount of cleaning will get rid of them. These dust mites do not bite or sting, however their droppings can easily become airborne, triggering asthma, eczema and other dust related allergies.

The general structure of foam, latex and visco-elastic mattresses makes it impossible for dust mites to penetrate the mattress. This creates a cleaner and healthier environment ultimately giving you a better nights sleep, especially if you are an allergy sufferer. Top

How much should you pay?
Foam mattress prices can vary dramatically depending upon the type, size, brand and manufacturer. Detailed below are the price points relating to the varying types of mattresses. Please note that prices may be a little higher if you are buying from an off line retail store.

Memory foam visco elastic, from £300 for a standard single to £1,750 for a super king.
Reflex foam, from £100 for a standard single to £400 for a super king.
Latex foam, from £200 for a standard single to £600 for a super king.

If your proposed mattress is outside of this price range please be overly cautious as it has been known for retailers to market reflex foam as memory foam visco elastic and therefore look remarkably cheap in comparison. You should also check for hidden delivery costs.
